Para um melhor resultado na impressão de uma imagem é necessário alguns cuidados na escolha e na hora de salvá-la.
Primeiramente é necessário observar a resolução da imagem. Para impressão em papel, o ideal é que a imagem esteja com pelo menos 300 DPI para ficar com uma resolução muito boa. Valores abaixo disso não são ideais para impressão, mas sim para serem visualizadas em telas, tipo computador, celular… pois não pesam na hora de abrir.

Na hora de salvar a imagem é importante observar o formato do arquivo.
Os formatos mais usados para salvar imagens são o JPEG e o PNG. Existem tantos outros, mas esses são os mais comuns.
Veja as principais características de cada um desses:
JPEG
É o mais comum e isso garante que a imagem será aberta em qualquer programa. No entanto, ela possui algumas desvantagens. Por exemplo, se você reduzir o tamanho do arquivo, reduzirá bastante a resolução. Isso acontece porque, a cada redução, elimina alguns pixels e esse processo é irreversível, isto é, esses pixels não são recuperados caso você volte a aumentar o tamanho da imagem. Além disso, o JPEG vem com fundo branco, o que faz com que não possa sobrepor essa imagem sobre outra e a de baixo aparecer. Isto é, o JPEG não tem fundo transparente. E se você usar a “varinha mágica” de alguns programas para tirar o fundo, a imagem já perde qualidade.
PNG
Esse formato tem características de JPEG, mas com opções mais avançadas. O PNG não perde pixels se você diminuir o tamanho da imagem. Assim, se você aumenta-la novamente, ela recupera sua qualidade original. Também há menor risco de pixelado em superfícies com maior expansão de cores. O PNG pode ter ou não o fundo transparente. Vai depender de como a imagem foi feita e salva.
Se for buscar imagens com fundo transparente no Google, nas configurações peça “transparente”.
Sempre que for pedir uma impressão, lembre-se que os tons que você está vendo na tela do computador pode ficar bem diferentes quando impressos. Existe uma grande variação entre cor RGB (para telas) e CMYK (para impressão).
